The Steamboat Springs School District is seeking Substitute School Bus Drivers to join our team.

PAY RANGE INFORMATION: Entry pay $27.73/hour as a temp/on call position Driver training can be provided.
JOB GOAL:
To provide safe and efficient transportation for Elementary, Middle and High school students, including students with special needs to and from school as well as off campus related activities. Drivers must meet all Federal, State and local requirements and maintain professional driving standards at all times.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Obey all traffic laws. Practice defensive driving techniques at all times. Operate school buses in a safe and lawful manner during varying weather, road and traffic conditions Make daily pre-trip inspections as required by law. Report all vehicle defects immediately and completes appropriate paperwork. Adhere to authorized routes. Load and unload students only at authorized stops. Maintain discipline when students are on the vehicle to ensure safety of all passengers. Adhere to and report for duty as schedule requires, to be ready before scheduled route time of departure. Transport only authorized students and/or authorized school district employees with prior authorization. Clean bus interior and exterior on regular basis. Ability to work well with students, district staff and parents and conduct oneself in a professional manner. Perform any other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 18 years of age High School diploma or GED required. Currently hold or able to secure a CDL school bus driver's license Able to meet all DOT regulations for drivers including ability to successfully pass employment drug test and physical exam. Able to pass physical and written exams as required by law. Subject to random drug screenings throughout year Shall not have been convicted of a felony in any state or territory subject to U.S. jurisdiction. Shall not have been convicted of any offense related to operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of, or impaired by, alcohol or drug use for at least five years. Must have a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to the Board of Education or its authorized representative. Physically be able to lift 50 pounds from floor level to an elevation of four feet
BENEFITS SUMMARY: PERA retirement program. Not eligible for other benefits.

An incorrect decision made by this position could impact the district legally causing financial condition of district to be affected. Errors made in decision-making could potentially result in substantial cost to the District or damage the credibility of the District.
Language Skills : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from groups of parents, community members, commissions, colleagues and Board of Education. Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.
Technology Skills : Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spread sheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.
Other Skills and Abilities : Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands : Must be able to drive bus during all weather conditions, sitting for longer periods of time whicl driving. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is continuously required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
