The Department of Neurobiology seeks to recruit a Research Scientist to direct the newly created Single Cell Genomics Facility (SCGF) on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. The SCGF is a shared core facility that provides instrumentation, services, and expertise for flow cytometry, single cell genomics, and spatial transcriptomics to the life sciences community at Northwestern. The SCGF occupies a newly renovated laboratory and houses cutting-edge instrumentation including a BD FACS Discover S8 spectral cell sorter, a BD Fortessa analyzer, a Vizgen MERSCOPE, Epredia NX70 cryostat, and a 10x Genomics Chromium controller. The successful applicant for this position will be responsible for directing high-level core functions including operating and maintaining instrumentation, training researchers on instrument use, consulting with researchers on how the facility would be best used to promote their research, and maintaining, tracking billing and submitting annual reports on core activities. This position will report to the Faculty Director of the core. The position will be filled at the Research Associate level with a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs of client labs. Primary facility management responsibilities encompass maintaining the scientific and financial functions of the core. Primary Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Operating and training researchers on the use of major equipment for flow cytometry, cell isolation, and spatial transcriptomics. Providing genomics services such as library generation. Consulting with investigators to provide guidance in sample preparation, experimental design, and data collection. Maintaining equipment and coordinating repairs. Applying for external and internal funding support for core operations. Providing letters of support for grant applications. Tracking expenses and filing annual financial reports for core operations. Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. degree in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, genetics, neuroscience or related field. Three years of experience with single-cell genomics experiments in a technical or research lab. Preferred qualifications: Prior experience with flow cytometry or cell sorting. Expertise in single cell library generation and/or RNA sequencing methods. Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
