Location: Districtwide Ridgefield Public Schools Student Transportation Driver
Overview:
The student transportation driver is a 12-month part-time position in the mornings and/or afternoons. The driver is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for students traveling to and living within the Town of Ridgefield traveling to schools outside of town lines. Drivers will pick up and drop off students at stops along established routes each day within the school calendar schedule as well as summer programs. The driver may also transport students to a work study program within town. Drivers must be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of the passengers. The driver must ensure that the vehicle is operating properly by conducting a vehicle inspection each day. Drivers are also responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules on conduct and responding to emergencies that may arise.
Responsibilities: Driving children to and from school related activities. Greet parents and children in a friendly and reassuring manner. Ensure that the child is secured in the seat at all times during transport. The driver must ensure that their vehicles are operating properly and conduct a vehicle inspection each day and report any items that require corrective action. Ensure that the vehicle is in compliance with laws and standard operating procedures. Must be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of the passengers. Communicate and report all disciplinary issues and incidents pertaining to the transportation of children. Remain consistent with stop schedules and route instructions and accurate record of stop times. Reinforce school bus rider rules while supervising students. Develop a positive professional relationship with parents, school staff, and students. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with emphasis on oral communication skills. Ability to handle problems and stressful situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Maintain a clean and organized vehicle to promote a healthy environment. Requirements:
HS Diploma or GED. Clean driving and criminal background. Must be able to pass DOT physical and drug screening. Passing of a Public Service License with a V endorsement required. Training will be provided for Mandated Reporting. Qualifications:
Must have 5 years of safe driving experience and good knowledge of local geography. Training will be provided through the Ridgefield Public Schools contracted Pupil Transportation provider. Must have skill and experience supervising children. Demonstrate empathy f
or each child and their needs. Experience with school aged students preferred.
Rate of Pay: $24.00 per hour
