Job description:

With general direction and oversight by the WIC Coordinator, the Nutritionist will help ensure all services of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) are provided, including nutrition assessment and documentation, basic education and counseling of pregnant, lactating, and postpartum women, infants, and children deemed at low risk.

Additional duties for this role include collecting and documenting participant anthropometric data, recruiting, scheduling, and enrolling clients, making appropriate health-related referrals, selecting core food packages, completing secondary education visits, answering phones, data entry, compiling data, and preparing summary reports, maintaining medical records for clients, copying documents needed for client enrollment/certification, as well as other duties as assigned.

The WIC Nutritionist will provide ongoing services to clients as needed and work collaboratively with professionals in other disciplines to ensure continuity of health care.

This position requires local travel including outreach activities and occasionally out-of-town travel for meetings, conferences, etc., and is subject to being assigned to any of the health district's facilities/work locations.

Qualifications

Qualifications, Required Skills, Education & Experience:

Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition. Experience providing services to pregnant women and families with young children preferred. Must complete all required competency-based training within six months and obtain valid certification as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) within one year of employment. Requires knowledge of general principles of public health. Requires extensive knowledge of the teaching/learning process and the ability to teach effectively to diverse groups. Skilled in maintaining client medical files, both electronic and hard copy. Knowledge, skills, and experience working with and utilizing community resources. Familiar with local health and human services agencies. Computer literacy at the user level is required; experience in scheduling is a plus. Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees, patients, family members, health personnel, and other professionals. Demonstrates problem-solving skills and is solution-oriented. Preferred - bilingual speaking/writing proficiency (Spanish). Must own a dependable automobile properly insured and possess a valid driver's license. Willing to accept other duties as assigned by ESHD. Adheres to policies and procedures, confidentiality, and HIPPA principles. Drug-free environment; drug screening and background check required.
