Job Description: WorldStrides is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead and oversee the development of mission-critical applications that support the educational travel industry. In this role, you will manage a team of engineers working across various platforms, ensuring seamless collaboration between cross-functional teams, and delivering innovative, high-quality software solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in a variety of software stacks, including .NET, Sitecore, SQL Server, Sitefinity, Power Apps, MS Dynamics, Progress OpenEdge, and LAMP stack technologies (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP). You will have experience managing teams that build scalable applications, and you’ll be a hands-on leader with strong technical know-how, driving architecture and development best practices across projects. Responsibilities: Leadership & Management: Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. Technology Strategy: Oversee the design, development, and deployment of software solutions using a diverse tech stack, including .NET, Sitecore, SQL Server, Sitefinity, Power Apps, MS Dynamics, Progress OpenEdge, PHP, PostgreSQL, and Linux. Project Management: Work closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to define project goals, technical specifications, and delivery timelines. Architecture & Development Oversight: Drive architectural decisions to ensure that systems are scalable, maintainable, and secure. Ensure consistent coding standards and best practices across all development teams. Collaboration: Facilitate collaboration between front-end and back-end teams, database administrators, and IT operations to deliver cohesive solutions that enhance the customer experience. Agile Methodology: Lead engineering teams using Agile/Scrum methodologies, helping to prioritize work and manage resources efficiently. Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet quality standards and that robust testing frameworks are in place (unit tests, integration tests, etc.). Performance Monitoring: Implement performance tuning and monitoring for applications to ensure optimal performance across various platforms. Stakeholder Communication: Regularly communicate with senior leadership, providing updates on project progress, challenges, and key performance indicators. Manage the delivery of an outsourced, vendor team responsible for addressing service desk tickets, KTLO maintenance, upgrades and enhancement projects. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 8+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 3+ years in a leadership role, preferably within the educational travel industry or a similarly complex sector. Extensive hands-on experience with the following technology stacks: Sitecore or Sitefinity CMS platforms SQL Server and database design Power Apps and MS Dynamics for CRM solutions Progress OpenEdge for enterprise applications PostgreSQL and database optimization on Linux environments Strong understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and DevOps practices. Proven experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment, leading cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to manage full software development lifecycles, from architecture and design through to deployment and post-launch support. Proven, past experience managing outsourced / offshore teams and vendors Prior experience in the travel industry or customer-facing applications (preferred). Strong understanding of UX/UI principles and how they intersect with back-end development (preferred). Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes (preferred). Familiarity with API integrations and building microservices architectures (preferred). Certifications in Microsoft technologies (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert) or AWS (preferred).
