Position Purpose:
Participate in CDL (Commercial Driver's License) training with the assistance of the transportation training department to become officially licensed as a CDL holder (by passing the written and physical portions of the exam) and be able to drive a full-sized school bus with the district. During non-training time periods, assist the driver as a bus monitor on a Special Needs route or Gen Ed route to carry out their responsibilities with the respect to transporting students safely to and from school.
Essential Job Functions: Observe all mandatory safety rules and regulations. Efficiently follow the assigned schedule for training required by the transportation training department. Actively participate in the written portion of the training, in addition to the hands-on portion of the classroom training to ensure you will have the required skills and knowledge required to obtain your required license. Ability to follow instructions given by the training supervisor/trainers in order to pass the State examination. Abide by the township policies to include guidelines listed in the Transportation Policy/Procedures Manual. Ability to work as a bus monitor and assist drivers with the discipline and overall well-being of the students while students are on the bus. Monitors must learn the special needs of the children in order to provide safe and comfortable transportation. Develop positive relationships with staff and students. Ability to drive a minibus after meeting the minimum requirements. Assist with other duties as assigned. EQUIPMENT
Provide boarding assistance to students. Training to gain knowledge on the following operating procedures: wheelchair lifts, tie downs, lap belts, assistive devices, and other bus equipment that ensures the safety of students with disabilities. Assist the driver in determining or facilitating seating assignments
Travel Requirements
Travel to transportation building for training for the first part of the scheduled shift and then to and from school district buildings while assisting as a bus monitor are required. Pay Rate: $16.65 per hour
Work Schedule:
The sub driver training schedule is Monday thru Friday, 9:30 am to 12 noon. The employee has the option to work additional hours as a bus monitor in the afternoons (Monday - Friday) from 1:00pm to 3:30pm (end time could be extended if the routes run late).
Average time to complete the required training and obtain full licensure is 6-8 weeks pending no extenuating circumstances with DOT physical or Clearinghouse checks.

Ability to work independently and collaborate with others in training. Ability to study the required material for state examination. Willingness to help special needs and/or gen ed students. Effective human relations skills that include a calm and patient personality. Ability to possess and positive attitude towards students and staff. Ability in adhering to safety rules and practices.
