The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for managing the company's finances, including financial planning, management of financial risks, record-keeping, and financial reporting. The CFO reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and oversees the Finance Committee. The CFO supervises the finance unit and is the chief financial spokesperson for the organization. The CFO directly assists the chief operating officer (COO) on all strategic and tactical matters relating to budget management, cost–benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and securing of new funding. WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE FOR THIS ROLE :

High level understanding of accounting systems, financial structure and risk management, as well as strong strategic and analytical thinking. Must have ability to conceptualize, train, forecast and communicate to various audiences at varying levels of financial and systems understanding, including management staff and the board. The ability to assess risk early, seek alternative solutions and lead senior management to create compensating measures to mitigate risk required. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Accounting or related field.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Ensures the production and distribution of timely and accurate financial statements and budgets. Works with program and administrative leadership to ensure financial reports are understood and utilized appropriately to inform departmental and organizational decision-making. Oversees the analysis of financial data and the preparation of financial reports and forecasts for Cost Center Management and the Board. Serves as the primary liaison with decision-makers in banking, technology, auditing and investment management relationships, overseeing timely and appropriate information flow and developing this constituency as a team of external consultants. Oversees the RFP process for the audit engagement and other large contractual relationships. Assists in development and dissemination of fiscal policies and procedures. Serves as primary staff for the board Finance Committee and subsidiary corporations, and oversee the preparation of materials for committee and subsidiary board meetings. Models agency core values of integrity, compassion, diversity, commitment & justice to all internal and external contacts. Takes the initiative to drive change at a pace aligned with the CEO. Ensures staff and board, as appropriate, are familiar with key organizational policies addressing finance, risk, technology and quality and the processes in place for compliance. Ensures Board leadership are well informed of the financial position of the organization. Develops a proactive and strategic planning process to support organizational growth and sustainability. Minimizes organizational risk through development of appropriate systems and oversight. Ensures compliance with Volunteers of America, regulatory and funding source requirements, and consistency with general accounting principles.
