Senior Sediment Environmental Scientist

with at least 8 years of experience in environmental science and sediment remediation. This role is designed for an experienced environmental professional who has a strong background in sediment site investigations, environmental assessments, and the design and implementation of remediation strategies for complex sediment contamination issues. Experience with

CERCLA

(Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act) regulations is essential. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing and supporting sediment remediation projects and will take on increasing responsibility in project coordination, technical design, and client interaction. As a Senior Sediment Environmental Scientist, you will be responsible for leading sediment site investigations, providing technical oversight on remediation design and implementation, and managing project tasks. You will mentor junior staff, contribute to the development of innovative remediation strategies, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This is a dynamic and challenging position for professionals looking to play a key role in high-profile remediation projects. We are open to having the candidate work from any location within the US Mainland, in what is our preferred work model of a hybrid basis, but we are open to candidates working 100 percent remotely, depending on their current location within the US. We are also flexible to part time OR full time roles as well. Key Responsibilities: Sediment Site Investigations & Characterization:

Lead sediment site assessments and investigations, including the collection and analysis of sediment, water, and soil samples. Conduct detailed site characterization and contamination assessments, interpreting complex data sets and recommending appropriate remedial actions. Remedial Design Support:

Assist in the design of sediment remediation strategies for contaminated sites. Contribute to the development of Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Studies (RI/FS) and Remedial Action Plans (RAPs), focusing on technologies such as dredging, capping, in-situ treatment, and stabilization. Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:

Lead the preparation and review of regulatory documents, including reports and permits required under

CERCLA ,

RCRA , and other applicable environmental laws. Ensure that remediation strategies comply with federal, state, and local regulations, and engage with regulatory agencies to secure necessary approvals and permits. Project Management & Coordination:

Either provide assistance, or take on significant project management responsibilities, including overseeing schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for multiple sediment remediation projects. Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., engineers, ecologists, regulatory agencies) to ensure the successful execution of project plans. Client & Stakeholder Interaction:

Serve as the primary technical contact for clients and project stakeholders, providing updates on project progress, addressing technical questions, and offering strategic advice. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives and regulatory expectations. Health & Safety Management:

Adhere to and enforce health and safety standards during field operations. Oversee the development and implementation of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for field projects, ensuring safe and effective operations on contaminated sites. Post-Remediation Monitoring & Evaluation:

Lead efforts in post-remediation monitoring, ensuring that site recovery goals are met and that long-term management programs are developed. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of remediation actions through data collection, analysis, and preparation of post-remediation reports. Mentorship & Staff Development:

Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior environmental scientists and engineers. Support the professional development of staff, offering guidance on project execution, regulatory compliance, and best practices in sediment remediation. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: BA/BS degree or higher in Environmental Science, Limnology, Geology, or a related field AND 8, eight plus years of experience and education or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education US Citizenship Preferred Qualifications: 10 plus years of experience in environmental science, sediment site investigations, and remediation projects. Masters Degree in Environmental Science, limnology, geology is a plus Professional Certification such as: Professional Geologist (PG) or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or any other advanced certifications in Environmental Science or related field Extensive experience with CERCLA, RCRA, and other environmental regulations. Proven ability to lead and manage sediment remediation projects, including overseeing site investigations, remedial design, and implementation of remediation strategies. Strong technical understanding of sediment contamination, sediment fate and transport, and remediation technologies such as dredging, capping, and in-situ treatments. Proficient in sediment sampling techniques, environmental data analysis, and ecological risk assessments. Experience with environmental modeling, GIS tools, and data management platforms is a plus. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently. Ability to track and report on project progress, adjusting plans as needed to meet objectives. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports, regulatory documents, and client deliverables. Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience in managing client relationships, offering strategic guidance, and resolving client concerns. Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $100,000.00 - $120,000.00.
