School Age Program Staff

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct supervision to a group of children in a school-age setting. Provides positive engagement to youth in a safe, nurturing environment with a diversity, equity and inclusion lens. (DEI). Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honestly, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Supervises a group of children.

2. Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.

3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.

4. Attends staff meetings, trainings, and special events. (family nights or YMCA events)

5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

6. Builds and maintains positive, culturally aware relationships with parents, youth participants and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

7. Other duties as assigned.

8. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying the Y's commitment to DEI and the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responds to all member and community inquiries in a timely manner.

9. Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  1. Meets 80% to 100% of the following qualifications:
  2. Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect.
  3. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least 18 years of age

2. High school diploma or equivalent (if applicable)

3. Must pass a background check (if applicable)

4. Previous experience working with youth preferably in a school age setting

5. Strong Desire to work with youth grades K-5

6. Ability to actively implement program activities.

7. Effective verbal communication skills

8. Ability to be flexible, multi-task.

9. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training with the first 30 days of hire.

10. Completed health form within the first 30 days of hire.

PREFERED LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. A certificate in DEI or extensive training and work experience.
  2. Behavior Managment skills.
  3. 2+ years' experience working with school age Children.
