EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Maryland Class C Driver's license required.
• Experience in mailroom operations and switchboard visitor management preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of U.S. Postal Service shipping processes, bulk mail procedures and other mail services required.
• Knowledge of United Parcel Service/FedEx shipping processes preferred.
• Knowledge of technology use, including Microsoft Office 365 programs, required.
• Ability to quickly learn new software, including postage processing, package scanning and tracking, and mail/package inventory software.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Excellent communication, public relations and customer service skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Knowledge of managing a centralized phone switchboard preferred.
• Preference for candidates who are bilingual in Spanish.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Sorts department/office/school and external mail.
• Checks in UPS and Fed Express packages.
• Delivers mail to selected buildings and La Plata Post Office daily.
• Tracks mailroom financial records using Excel and Quicken programs, including the bulk mail and postage accounts.
• Processes bulk mailing requests according to U.S. Post Office guidelines.
• Trains administrative office staff and school-based staff on correct procedures for bulk mail requests.
• Handles mailroom vendors.
• Sorts U.S. Post Office mail daily; sorts interoffice mail that is received from Charles County Public Schools buildings (44 schools and centers).
• Operates the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building main switchboard and building visitor-entry system, as needed.
• Drives mail to and from post office locations in Waldorf and La Plata.
• Supports the Office of Communications with clerical needs, when necessary.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
