Senior Buyer

JOB SUMMARY
The senior buyer role is responsible for handling all aspects of raw material purchasing which mainly consist of steel and steel components. In addition, you will serve as the lead position for B&G's procurement and planning department providing oversight and assistance where needed to lower-level buyers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Review of planned and unplanned raw material purchases. Consulting with expeditors, line leaders and production supervisors to determine urgency of need. Creation and distribution of requests for quotations to raw material suppliers. Evaluating pricing and lead times. Creation and distribution of purchase orders.
Reviews requisitions received for procurement of parts, commodities and services as needed.
Maintain procurement records on MRP system, update lead times, maintain minimum order quanities, maximum inventory levels and safety stock.
General overview of B&G's purchase orders across departments including review and follow up of late orders.
Discuss defective or unacceptable goods with QC, Engineering and vendors. Determines best and most cost effective method of shipping materials. Approves invoices for payment.
Developing and maintaining existing supplier relationships. Sourcing of new suppliers.
Analyzes requests for new parts; consults with Engineering to clarify specifications, requests prototypes from vendors; forward prototypes to Quality Control for assessment.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recommend ideas. Propose new methods and submit cost savings proposals to supervisor for approval.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and general manufacturing knowledge.
Working knowledge of Microsoft software (excel, word, power point)
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Experience utilizing SAP software
Active participation in APICS

Walking back and forth from production floor (20 %) of the day
