Manufacturing Design Engineer Cupertino, California, United States Description APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Responsible for selection, implementation and optimization of manufacturing processes. Work on quality planning and deployment at material and vendor factories. Develop specific Product Quality Plan (PQP) appropriate to program and commodity using quality control and manufacturing concepts. Assess measurability and address concerns directly with stakeholders and cross-functional teams. Identify and direct studies to implement improvements in measuring methods, including investigating and implementing new and innovative measurement methods for new end use applications. Coordinate all Quality Engineering functions for a program and lead efforts at supplier locations to ensure the implementation of quality system to achieve yield targets. Plan, propose, and lead experiments to produce timely and accurate analyses for design, development, and supply chain decisions. Design experiments to understand key process parameters on a knit fabric that impact functionality like stretch of the fabric. Assess the suitability of a fabrication technology for a given part design to achieve required specifications. Plan validation exercises to demonstrate initial feasibility and manufacturing capability to ensure process capability is accounted for during production yield assumptions. Analyze results of validation exercises using statistical tools such as JMP to find meaningful conclusions from data and provide technical recommendations. Review progress of development activities at supplier locations, escalate critical process issues, and highlight conclusions to team, including data analysis for suppliers’ trials. Assist supplier selection process for new products and second sourcing activities supporting qualification/disqualification decisions. Review PQP with supplier and other Apple functional groups to optimize supplier quality programs. Evaluates supplier readiness and adherence to PQP at all development and qualification stages. Monitor suppliers’ performance through measurement of production line statistics, company inspections, and audits and provide recommendations for improvement. Prepare performance summary for the management to ensure effective corrective action plans. International Travel Required 20%. 40 hours/week. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or Foreign Equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Textile, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering (any) or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation. 1 year of experience with each of the following skills is required: Demonstrating textile process experience to improve manufacturing process. Performing data analysis in Minitab or Excel to analyze quality data to derive meaningful conclusions. Conducting design of experiments (DOE) and utilizing Minitab or Excel to analyze quality and process data collected from DOEs to derive meaningful conclusions and implement changes. Using FMEA for analyzing and understanding failure modes that pertain to the materials which directly impacts end use of product. Using knowledge of textile process to understand impact of key process parameters on finished good performance. Auditing program procedures and suppliers to ensure alignment to company quality standard. Implementing FATP and Cp/CpK review of mechanical parts using tools such as Minitab or Excel for analyzing manufacturing quality and process data. Designing supplier selection process for new products & second sourcing activities to support qualification decisions.
