Summary
The Valley Shore YMCA in Westbrook CT is seeking part-time Housekeepers/Custodians for weekday and weekend shifts. No experience needed.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Custodial and Housekeeping position at the Valley Shore YMCA cleans and sanitizes assigned areas including such duties as mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, room set up, and may include pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping and other related responsibilities.

Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned areas and equipment including inside the building and outside.
- Ensures supplies are adequately maintained throughout the building, such as replacing soap, paper towels and other supplies and stocking shelves.
- Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
- Records and reports all needed repairs; may make light repairs as directed.
- Ensure Y building and property is safe and secure during shift and at end of shift.
- Follows all safety protocols, is alert to hazardous situations to protect self, staff and members and reports all incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor
- May set up furniture and room arrangements
- Other tasks and projects as assigned

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Six months or more of related experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals and other documents
- Ability to report and record maintenance requests
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
- Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe and efficient use
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
WORK ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of the position and to supervise program activities and respond to emergencies and challenging situations
- Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms of up to 8 feet
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties and safely lift 30lbs or more.
- Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray and aerosol forms.
- Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed
- Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust
- Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility which may involve, but not be limited to the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; bending to floor; shoveling; carrying; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead and at ground level; twisting at the waist, shoulders and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back
- The noise level in the work environment may be loud when using electrical equipment.
