Description
This position combines the typical duties of a groundskeeper, like maintaining lawns and landscaping, with a specific focus on identifying and eliminating pest infestations within the indoor/outdoor areas of all school district property, utilizing pest control methods and chemicals to keep the grounds pest-free.

Description

- SCHEDULE: 6:30AM-3:00PM TUESDAY-SATURDAY
- HOURS PER DAY: 8
- YEAR-ROUND POSITION (260 DAYS / 12 MONTHS)
- ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP

Responsibilities
- Inspect all school district properties to ascertain possible locations of pest invasion and determine treatment type required to eliminate and prevent infestation. Design and carry out pest control management plan
- Identify invading pests, including but not limited to rats, mice, termites, snakes, ants, spiders, mosquitoes, and bed bugs.
- Apply appropriate remedies such as chemical solutions, powders, and granules on or near surfaces of buildings and structures, ensuring safety procedures are followed for applications.
- Utilize appropriate protective gear and equipment during application
- Set mechanical traps and place bait. Remove dead rodents after extermination or live animals after trapping.
- Create wood destroying insect reports including recommendations, measuring area dimensions requiring treatment.
- Consistently trim trees and bushes near or overhanging building/structure areas to prevent areas where pests can live.
- Maintain proper inventory of tools, equipment, service vehicles & materials as well as maintain professional appearance.
- Maintain shrub beds, flower beds, lawns, and other required areas. Perform routine maintenance work on grounds such as aerating, trimming, pruning, and seeding as required.
- Always observe safety rules and regulations.
- Perform snow removal as assigned.
- Perform related duties as requested by supervisor.
- Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
- Required: Up to date Commercial Applicator Pesticide License to apply pesticides; or the ability to obtain this licensure.
- Preferred: Up to date Herbicide License to treat trees, shrubs, and planting areas near and around buildings and structures; or the ability to obtain this licensure.
- Related work experience required with parks, golf courses, and large institutions preferred.
- Ability to apply pesticides chemicals in accordance with established regulations and to read, understand and follow chemical label instructions.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations to estimate materials and time needed to complete tasks.
- Continuing & ongoing professional development with up-to-date methods and applications for pest control management.
- Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with other people and to sustain employment.
- Physical strength to perform strenuous outside work. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
- Demonstrated ability to relate and work effectively with a diverse group of co-workers and staff in a confidential manner.
- Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
- Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
- Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement () as negotiated.
