Duties & Responsibilities

Summary:

The Transfer Center is recruiting for a TransferAdvisor to join our team! Transfer Advisors provide advising services, transfercredit evaluations, referrals, and transition support to transfer students aswell as non-transfer students with transfer credit. Services are provided toundergraduate students from pre-admission through graduation in coordinationwith other advising units to facilitate their matriculation and persistence atVCU.

Core Responsibilities

Evaluate and post transfer credits (40%):

  • Evaluate and articulate incoming transfer credits in accordance with university transfer policies and guidelines.
  • Enter approved transfer credits to students' records in accordance with University policies and guidelines and practice routine data accuracy verification.
Advise prospective and current transfer students (40%):
  • Provide advising support in person, by phone, by virtual meeting, and via email to prospective and current transfer students on degree requirements, course recommendations, and other questions.
  • Evaluate prospective student transcripts and determine how prior coursework applies to degree requirements.
  • Effectively communicate transfer credit evaluation and course recommendations to prospective students.
  • Maintain communication with academic departments in order to understand degree requirements and provide accurate degree program information to prospective students and transition support to admitted transfer students.
  • Provide transition assistance through advising and programming services to incoming transfer students.
  • Understand university resources to accurately refer students to appropriate departmental offices, faculty, and support services for help with academic and personal needs.
Provide programming for transfer students (10%):
  • Determine programming needs for new transfer students, including National Transfer Student Week.
  • Plan and manage fiscally responsible programming.
  • Evaluate programming through student outreach and discussion with supervisor.
Other duties (10%):
  • Assist with other Transfer Center initiatives as needed.
  • Support the VCU chapter of Tau Sigma National Honor Society.
  • Assist with division initiatives as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working with college students in a college or university setting, including admissions, advising and/or programming experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time, provide clear direction, and establish efficient priorities.
  • Ability to work well with others throughout VCU and among transfer partner institutions.
  • Ability to work with a variety of student populations in a diverse community.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and Google applications, including presentations and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • In-progress or completed Master's degree.
  • Experience working with college students in transition.
  • Knowledge of VCU and VCU admission policies.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner.
Other Position Details
  • This position allows for a hybrid work schedule andhas occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
