Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering including coursework in hydraulics/hydrology and three years of increasingly responsible experience in civil/environmental engineering or closely related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional Engineer License or EIT desired. Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience in working with engineers, developers, contractors, and the public essential. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview. Pre-employment drug testing and FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Review and approve engineering plans for subdivision and commercial development, ensuring plans conform to acceptable engineering standards for erosion control, drainage, Virginia Stormwater Management Program, Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act, Floodplain Management Ordinance, and other state and local requirements. Confer with consulting engineers, developers, and contractors, and respond to inquiries or complaints from the public pertaining to environmental engineering issues. State certifications as Plan Reviewer for both Erosion and Sediment Control and Virginia Stormwater Management Program are required within 12 months of employment. Perform other work as required.
