Job Description
SUMMARY: Responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of the various accounting functions and staff under the general direction of the Controller. Prepares or supervises the preparation of internal and external financial reporting. Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the department’s deliverables and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Controller in supervising the department’s day-to-day operations and provides oversight of the accounting functions workflow and staff. Assigns duties; establishes performance standards; conducts performance management; conducts training; and determines staffing, training, and development needs.
- Prepares various regulatory reports including but not limited to the quarterly CALL report and semi-annual and annual FR-Y reports to the corresponding regulator.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of internal and external analytical and financial reports for executive management. Prepares Board reports monthly including income statements and balance sheets.
- Oversees the accurate and timely general ledger reconciliations and period-end closings assigned to staff. Performs reconciliations for assigned accounts, including but not limited to equity, BOLI, public deposits, and borrowings.
- Monitors bank’s deposit balances daily and projects cash availability and funding requirements.
- Provides oversight of accounts payable and vendor management functions.
- Collaborates with the Bank’s Chief Compliance Officer and Controller to coordinate Accounting department regulatory and audit examinations. Prepares and handles all phases of the department’s audits performed by state and federal bank regulatory examiners and internal auditors.
- Minimizes the bank's risk exposure by ensuring staff compliance with established policies and procedures, internal controls, and legal and regulatory guidelines. Maintains and updates the department’s procedure manual. Keeps current on regulations that directly affect the bank and accounting/finance division.
- Acts as a backup to the Controller and other functions within the Accounting department.
- Assists senior management with special projects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; five to seven years of progressive accounting experience in a financial institution, preferably in a Senior Accountant or Accounting Supervisor role or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP. Extensive background in financial institution accounting, auditing, and financial reporting.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work in a deadline-intensive work environment.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills are required to prioritize assignments and provide employee coaching.
- Proven ability to communicate and motivate effectively at all levels through excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced skills in MS Word and Excel and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
