Description

The Department of Medicine is seeking a skilled Bioinformatics Programmer to provide advanced computational and data science expertise in support of diverse research initiatives. This role integrates computational theory with practical applications, leveraging a deep understanding of computer science, data science, and cyberinfrastructure (CI) to address complex research challenges. The Data Scientist will develop and optimize algorithms, conduct research on cutting-edge HPC (high-performance computing) systems and technologies, and apply professional programming and computational principles. This position involves the design and implementation of innovative research tools, contributing to advancements in hardware, software, and CI solutions to support the Department's scientific goals.

Hourly range: $36.49-$76.05

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer / Computational / Data Science, or Domain Sciences with computer / computational / data specialization or equivalent experience

2-3 years of experience in computation science, data science, statistics, or related field, with computer, computational, and/or data management experience

Moderate knowledge of basic and multivariate statistics

Demonstrated experience associated with one or more of the following: HPC hardware and software power and performance analysis and research, design, modification, Implementation and deployment of HPC or data science or CI applications and tools

Demonstrated ability to regularly interface with management

Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non- technical personnel at various levels in the organization

Proven ability to successfully work on multiple concurrent projects

Demonstrated experience and ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff; technical, students, faculty and administrators
