Job Description AECOM is actively seeking an experienced and talented Senior Rail Vehicle Engineering Lead to join our rail team in Baltimore, Maryland. As the

Senior Rail Vehicle Engineering Lead , you will play a pivotal role in supporting the design, procurement, and maintenance of rail vehicles. This position requires expertise in electromechanical systems, HVAC, friction brake systems, and related technologies, which will be critical in overseeing system integrations, vehicle testing, and ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards. The Senior Rail Vehicle Engineer will collaborate closely with transit authorities and rail agencies, providing technical expertise across all phases of vehicle program development.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead engineering and project management efforts, including support for new and overhaul railcar programs by developing and reviewing technical specifications for various rail systems.

Conduct design reviews, participate in First Article Inspections (FAI), and oversee qualification testing for rail vehicle programs.

Coordinate and support vehicle qualification test programs, including developing procedures, execution, reporting, and closing out open engineering and quality issues.

Provide management and engineering support to project managers for resolving technical and project-related issues.

Lead the engineering, design, and integration of electromechanical systems including HVAC, door controls, and train control systems for rail vehicles.

Manage and supervise the testing and validation of rail vehicle systems, ensuring all systems meet required safety and operational standards.

Oversee the coordination and integration of vehicle subsystems between manufacturers and public transit agencies, identifying and resolving interface issues during design and construction phases.

Participate in systems commissioning, testing, and startup support for vehicle communication and control systems.

Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including technical specification development support for multiple new and overhaul railcar programs, design reports, test plans, and validation reports for vehicle systems.

Qualifications Minimum:

BA/BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field

Twelve years of progressive experience in rail vehicle system design, management, and construction or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Expertise in HVAC systems, friction brake systems, electromechanical systems, and vehicle system integration

Preferred:

Prior experience working with public transit agencies in system maintenance and rail vehicle design

Familiarity with project management tools and processes

Expertise in systems related to door controls, wheel-rail interface, and train control systems

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred

Experienced in leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
