The Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC) is an independent agency of the Commonwealth. The mission of the DPPC is to protect adults with disabilities from the abusive acts or omissions of their caregivers through investigation oversight, public awareness, and prevention. The DPPC investigates allegations of abuse committed against adults with a disability between the ages of 18 to 59; oversees investigations conducted by other agencies, and oversees the remediation of cases of abuse.

The DPPC is seeking a qualified and motivated applicant to join our Investigation Team. In this role, you will conduct abuse investigations consistent with M.G.L. c. 19C and 118 CMR, and the DPPC statute and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducting Adult Protective Service (APS) investigations consistent with DPPC statute and regulations
Conducting interviews and collecting physical/documentary evidence as needed
Following appropriate procedures for preserving evidence
Verifying information obtained in order to establish accuracy and authenticity of facts
Preparing investigation reports and making appropriate protective service recommendations
Conferring with oversight officers regarding Protective Service Plans as required
Coordinating with EOHHS agency staff, vendor staff, law enforcement officials, and other state agency staff as needed in conducting investigations and in developing Protective Service Plans
Making referrals to other agencies and professionals when necessary
Performing other related duties including but not limited to maintaining records, attending meetings, preparing correspondence as required and assigned
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience conducting protective service/abuse investigations
Demonstrated ability to positively and effectively interact with individuals with disabilities
Demonstrated ability to effectively interview victims of abuse with disabilities
Knowledge of the dynamics and traumatizing impact of abuse on victims
Knowledge of accepted protective service investigation practices and investigative report writing
Knowledge of the service providing systems in place for persons with disabilities
Ability to assess risk of abuse and to develop practical and effective plans to remedy identified risk
Ability to work independently and to meet timelines
Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds
Ability to travel throughout the Commonwealth
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and crisis-oriented environment
Dedicated to ensuring that persons with disabilities are treated with dignity and respect
Required Qualifications:
At least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in conducting protective service investigations in a human services environment
Possession of a current and valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License
Experience in clinical, disability, medical, law and/or law enforcement background preferred
*A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be used to substitute for two years of investigation experience.
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in investigatory, law enforcement or regulatory administration work, or (B) an equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: A Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience. Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
