AWS is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we're looking for talented people who want to help. Engineers at Amazon design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems, achieving world-class uptime for our customers. We justify and communicate technical decisions to Sr. Management and drive continuous advancements and improvements in our designs. As an engineer at Amazon, you will have the ability to drive change and define/design the systems our customers rely on.
We seek engineers with hands-on electrical design experience. If you can design an electrical system, understand critical equipment needs for a data center, and comprehend the constructability of varying designs, you may be a good fit. Engineers will be responsible for taking designs from concept to the permit and construction document set, defining critical equipment specifications, and approving equipment submittals. You will support construction and be part of the process from site selection review through commissioning and turnover, serving as a subject matter expert in electrical engineering. This position is based out of Seattle, with occasional travel to other offices required (up to 20% of your time). Majority of travel will be to US-based data centers for in-person collaboration efforts. International support may also be part of the job, which could require developing schematic and design document packages. Understanding international electrical design requirements is helpful but not necessary.

Key job responsibilities Responsibilities of the Sr. Electrical Engineer include: Data center electrical designs and collaboration with other disciplines to create a construction document set. Creation of designs that meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within budgetary constraints. Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes. Review and approval of equipment submittals. Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests during construction phases. Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems. Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions. Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, providing engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed. Having fun and offering creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or 12+ years of relevant electrical experience. 7+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design. 9+ years of experience developing design documentation for construction and/or permitting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Professional Engineering License and knowledge of building codes and regulations (Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, OSHA). Understanding of critical data center electrical equipment (UPS, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, etc.) and basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design. Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities. Willingness to think outside the box to find creative solutions to reduce costs without impacting quality, reliability, or maintainability. Experience with fast-track design/build projects and large-scale technical operations.
