Cardiothoracic Surgeon

for Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, Indiana.The University of Chicago Medicine has partnered with Methodist Hospital to staff its cardiovascular/ thoracic surgery.

Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Physician Roles and Responsibilities

Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment, and procedures for a specified patient population

Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions

Refers patients to other specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate

Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing, other health care professionals, and support staff, as required

Follows established UCM Care Network departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards

As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

Required Skills and Qualifications

Unrestricted Medical License in Illinois and Indiana

Completed a US Residency Program

Board certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or its equivalent

Completed an accredited fellowship or equivalent training in cardiovascular/ thoracic (CVT) surgery.

3-5 years of experience is preferred

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.

The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
