The Chemist 1 position in our Automotive division is responsible for a variety of exciting activities related to the color quality of our high-performance coatings. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships. * Contribute to the Vehicle Refinish Toner Color Team with a focus on color quality through the creation of new test methods to support new product development. * With moderate supervision, develop and validate test methods, evaluate color properties of finished goods, and set color standards. * Support manufacturing sites with any color quality related concerns. * Design and execute experiments, provide clear and accurate analysis of results, draw conclusions, and make recommendations. * Excellent organizational and communication skills * Use of good laboratory practices, including notebook documentation BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field. 1 year of paint and coatings experience Must be able to, with or without reasonable accommodation, determine the difference between colors. Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis Chemistry knowledge PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymers and Coatings 1-2 years color experience as it relates to automotive coatings. Experience working with products and technologies including, but not limited to, solvent-based and waterborne technologies, monocoat and basecoat/clear coat, solid shades, and metallic products. Experience with automotive pigments, both metallic and non-metallic. Knowledge of and experience with DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) methodology and tool use. Travel Requirements: 5% Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Until then, the role will be based at the Warrensville Technical Center, located at 4440 Warrensville Center Rd Warrensville Heights, OH 44128.
