Systems Engineer

to join our team in the

Washington, D.C. Navy Yard. Job Summary: The employee in this position serves as a Warfare Systems Engineer directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Warfare System Engineering Manager. The candidate will serve as a System Engineer within the SEA 05V Warfare Group. Occasional travel may be expected in this position. If requested, travel will be to Newport News Shipbuilding yard. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and System Engineering Manager (SEM). Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing Nimitz (CVN 68) and/or Ford (CVN 78) operational experience. Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request. Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs). Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review. Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide technical recommendations. Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit proposals for changes. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university. 5+ years of experience with U.S. Navy Warfare Systems. E-7 or above that has experience with U.S. Navy Warfare Systems. Must have prior experience with U.S. Navy Vessels. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with U.S. Aircraft Carrier (CVN) Warfare Systems. Experience with Nuclear Powered U.S. Navy vessels. Experience working with technical authority. Clearance Requirements: Must possess an active or current U.S. government Secret security clearance and U.S. Citizenship. Physical Requirements: Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
