As Director Scientific Office Cell and Gene Therapies (CGT) Technical Research & Development (TRD), you will lead the CGT Scientific Office setting scientific standards and bringing scientific rigor to the next level of excellence to support our portfolio of innovative medicines. You will be responsible for enabling and guiding innovation and thought leadership to deliver best-in-class CGT approaches within Novartis and through engagement with external partners. You and your team will lead the effort to develop scientific strategies and assist in their execution and the overall scientific endeavors to support our CGT pipeline for now and in the future. About the Role

Key Responsibilities: Lead the Scientific Office of Cell and Gene Therapies (CGT) in TRD Biologics & CGT, including accountability for CGT scientific governance meetings. Accountable for the CGT scientific strategy and driving the CGT long-term strategic plan and its implementation together with the CGT leadership team. Act as operational manager for up to 10 senior associates in matrix leadership roles. Ensure a broad overview of the industry, academic, and regulatory landscape for CGT Development, actively scouting current and future trends including upcoming technologies and integrating them into CGT strategy. Inspire and energize the CGT organization to explore, develop, and implement cutting-edge development, production, and automation technologies. Drive the broader CGT organization for scientific rigor and knowledge curation, including an effective scientific project consultancy. Build and maintain a stakeholder network within Novartis, including the BxCGT Scientific Officer and line functions across TRD and beyond (i.e., Biomedical Research, Technical Operations, Development). Set up and drive the external engagement strategy for CGT in alignment with the broader TRD strategy and organization. Minimum Requirements:

PhD degree in a technical or scientific area or proven track record of scientific expertise. Minimum 8 years of experience in related fields, with at least 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Strong knowledge of development and manufacturing technologies. Proven track record in leading and engaging people in matrixed, cross-disciplinary, and multi-cultural environments. Coaching skills. Strong communication skills including building and maintaining a network. Experience in senior scientific roles. Several years in pharmaceutical development or production. Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $192,000 and $288,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
