Senior Animal Lab Clinic Technician

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City has an opening for a full-time Senior Lab Animal Husbandry Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in clinical care of research animals, rodent health surveillance, and import/export coordination, and may also include cage cleaning and sanitation, handling and restraining animals, feeding, treatments, and facility maintenance.
Duties:
- Observes, feeds, transfers, and administers pharmaceuticals to laboratory animals, maintains laboratory, collects samples, and maintains records.
- Observes animals for early manifestations of disease such as rapid or labored breathing, or lethargy and reports to designated personnel.
- Provides food and water to laboratory animals
- Transfers animals from soiled to clean enclosures, protecting individual identity of animals
- Ensures laboratory has stable temperature, and humidity levels
- Ensures all equipment, bedding, and cages are clean and in working condition
- Reports any problems or deviations to designated personnel
- Collects blood, tissue, or fluid samples from animals.
- Restrains animals for examination or injection
- Administers pharmaceutical or biological products through intramuscular, subcutaneous, oral, or topical route
- Maintains records of all activities of the animal laboratory
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
