Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Accounting Manager, perform a wide variety of technical accounting work associated with constructed fixed assets and the financing associated with those activities. This accountant position, which supports the activities of both Finance and Engineering, will include tasks related to general ledger accounting, accounts payable, fixed asset accounting, accounts receivable, and general recordkeeping.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare journal entries
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist Accounting Manager with recording of fixed asset additions/disposals
  • Record contractual obligations and prepare construction-related payments
  • Record construction contracts, change orders, task orders, and supplemental agreements in the accounting system
  • Research historical accounting transactions
  • Support Finance Department in preparation of audit work related to constructed fixed assets
  • Assist Accounting Manager with review of grants and other awards to help identify key contracting, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements
  • Collect accounting information to support Accounting Manager and/or Director of Engineering in application, amendment, and/or closeout of PFC authorization, State grant, and/or Federal grant opportunities
  • Prepare ad-hoc project reports for use by key personnel in Engineering and Finance
  • Electronic scanning, sorting, and filing of financial records
  • Support other critical accounting functions as needed
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, vendors, customers, and Airport staff
  • Keep Accounting Manager informed on work progress, including present and potential work problems
  • Observe departmental and office rules, policies, and regulations
  • Remain current on principles, practices, and new developments associated with assigned work areas
  • Coordinate with others to maximize the efficiency of financial operations and activities
  • Perform other duties consistent with the role and function of the classification

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven track record of organization skills and attention to detail
  • Substantial knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Substantial knowledge of financial procedures and practices
  • Substantial knowledge of financial application software
  • Substantial knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and general ledger
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making ability in all situations
  • Ability to interpret accounting records and analyze accounting data
  • Effective oral and written communication skills using both technical and non-technical language
  • Ability to perform tasks with accuracy and speed under time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to understand and conform to oral and written policies, procedures, and instructions
  • Ability to prepare reliable financial reports containing findings and recommendations
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using software applications consistent with assigned role
  • Proficiency in 10-key and general keyboarding
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with:
    • At least two years of experience in financial transaction operations
    • Experience specific to constructed asset accounting
    • An understanding of governmental accounting and operation principles
    • Experience with Sage100 (MAS90)

OR

  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
