Minimum Qualifications
PLEASE NOTE: BFOQ - BILINGUAL (ENGLISH/SPANISH).
The selected candidate must be able to fluently read, write and speak both English and Spanish.
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology or related field and two years of experience in human services field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of and experience working with offenders of domestic violence, sex offenses, trauma, substance abuse, mental health, and various forms of abuse. Knowledge of judicial system, field of corrections and criminology; working skill in caseload management; developing/implementing alternative treatment methods; good oral/written communication, interpersonal and public relation skills necessary. Basic PC skills. Experience with casework and group work desired. Preferred knowledge of and experience with Evidence Based Practices, including risk assessment, case planning and motivational interviewing strategies.
Current valid driver's license and
g ood driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.
This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. Duties
Provide local probation services to adults; interview/supervise offenders and defendants to assist the court; verify information and make written and oral reports to the court. Responsibilities may include conducting educational groups for offender population, completing risk assessments, coordinating, and monitoring placements for court ordered drug testing and electronic monitoring. Conduct site/home visits and conduct drug and alcohol testing through color-code system and random testing. Performs court research and secures warrants/information needed to properly supervise clients within state and local standards. Must attend and complete Basic Skills training through DCJS and must be able to obtain VCIN certification within first three months of employment. Performs other work as required.
