Job Summary:

The role involves supporting research scientists, students, and faculty at the UTA Research Institute (UTARI) in developing control hardware and implementing software for robotic and medical device R&D projects. Most activities will focus on lab work, including the development and testing of prototypes in laboratory and research settings. Perform job duties under direct supervision.

Essential Duties:

  • Design the layout, assemble components, troubleshoot, and conduct the embedded programming for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) development.
  • Maintain, debug, and diagnose embedded systems.
  • Perform integration of electronic and pneumatic hardware.
  • Perform design verification and validation of hardware systems.
  • Prepare documentation and contribute to reports.
  • Document work / keep accurate records.
  • Maintain awareness of current technological advancements related to your field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with one (1) year proven experience in PCB design and assembly, pneumatic hardware integration, sensor integration, and microcontroller programming.
  • Expertise in Embedded programming (Arduino, C/C++, C#, and circuitPython), microcontrollers (PICS, ARM, hobby boards such as Arduino, Beaglebone, Raspberry PI, ESP 32).
  • Experience in soldering and fault-detection.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over two (2) years extensive experience in:
    • PCB Design and Assembly: Design, develop, and assemble printed circuit boards (PCBs) for various robotic applications.
    • Pneumatic Hardware Integration: Integrate pneumatic hardware components into embedded systems for controlling pneumatically driven actuators.
    • Sensor Integration: Integrate sensors (IMUs, force sensors, pressure sensors) for closed-loop control of robotics.
    • Microcontroller Programming: Develop and program microcontroller firmware to control and interface with hardware components.
    • Testing and Validation: Conduct thorough testing and validation of prototypes of developed embedded systems to ensure reliability and performance.
