Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Vehicle Management Systems Sr. Principal Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Melbourne, Florida. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

The Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Engineer requires coursework and/or experience in aircraft vehicle management systems. A VMS engineer designs and develops system architectures and defines key capabilities and performance requirements. Duties include:

1. Flight critical system design for aircraft control
2. Architecture design with optimized redundancy levels
3. Trade studies
4. Specification of hardware elements and technical support to procurement
5. Vehicle management software specification and oversight
6. Fault management design
7. Lab testing of flight hardware & software
8. On-aircraft testing
9. Support to vehicle flight testing
10. Anomaly resolution

We seek candidates with strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and the ability to organize work, manage time, plan, and prioritize.

Primary Responsibilities will include:

1. Management of VMS hardware procurement
2. Management of supplier cost, schedule, and technical performance through Earned Value Management
3. Development of VMS Specification, Statement of Work, and Contractual Terms & Conditions
4. Management of Purchase Orders, Supplier Deliverables, and Schedules
5. Coordination with Global Supply Chain, Business Management & Schedule Management for source selection, negotiations, and performance against program IMS
6. Coordination with Quality, Manufacturing, and other pertinent stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited university with 8 years of system architecture definition experience OR a Master’s Degree in STEM with 6 years of system architecture definition experience
2. Experience with at least one of the following technical disciplines: subsystem integration and test, data bus architecture definition, system integrity analysis, VMS architecture development
3. Experience with hardware procurement and supplier performance management
4. Experience with various contract types including Firm Fixed Price and Cost Plus
5. Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Previous experience with design, development, and/or integration of Air Vehicle systems and subsystems in the military aerospace environment
2. Prior airworthiness experience
3. Integrated Hardware/Software (Subsystem/System Feature) validation experience

Salary Range: $118,600 - $178,000. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
