About the Job

The Human Resource Department within the College of Liberal Arts supports more than 2,000 full-time and part-time staff and faculty is seeking to hire an HR Coordinator to help provide support to the CLA HR team and the three corridors within the College of Liberal Arts. This position will serve as a collaborative member of the CLA HR team to provide HR coordination within all facets of Human Resources. The HR Coordinator will work closely with the CLA HR Generalists and report directly to the Sr. HR Consultant.

This is a hybrid position, in-person work will be located on the Twin Cities campus.

The budgeted pay range for this position: $52,000 - $65,000

Responsibilities

  1. Recruitment, Hiring, Compensation, and Onboarding (60%)
    • Oversee inclusive hiring practices and strengthen the candidate experience through activities such as:
    • Collaborate with HR team members and supervisors to assess hiring needs, review staff position descriptions, and provide guidance on appropriate job classifications.
    • Review and approve position posting requests, including salary ranges, ensuring budget and other approvals.
    • Support HR Generalists in formulating salary offers, ensuring they align with posted ranges, internal equity, and candidates' experience.
    • Conduct screening for minimum qualifications and prepare hiring letters for staff positions not supported by full cycle recruiting services from OHR Talent Acquisition (TA).
    • Partner with Talent Acquisition to develop and maintain screening, selection, and interview tools, as well as communication templates, ensuring inclusiveness and mitigating implicit bias.
    • Initiate I-9 processes and assist in completion as a backup and during busy periods.
    • Collaborate to create and provide templates and tools to support departments and supervisors in carrying out positional onboarding.
    • Partner with CLA HR team colleagues to design and deliver new employee orientation sessions, a new employee buddy program, and carry out collegiate onboarding.
    • Review job descriptions and provide recommendations for appropriate qualifications, and job codes, and facilitate job posting for all classification levels.
    • Create, determine, and place job advertisements based on the unique needs of each position on external websites.
    • Serve as an HR liaison during the recruitment process, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures, while recommending innovative strategies to attract talent.
  2. HR Operations and Project Coordinator (30%)
    • Monitor graduate assistant appointments throughout the entry process.
    • Manage onboarding and offboarding tasks, focusing on transactional and administrative components.
    • Provide support for the Performance Appraisal Tool (PAT) and troubleshoot related issues.
    • Support CLA staff to complete HR TDX requests (Authorization, Post, Hire, Modify, End).
    • Assist in planning, executing, and supporting HR-related projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
    • Coordinates and maintains project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets, and status reports.
    • Collect and analyze data related to project metrics. Assists in preparing reports and presentations for HR leadership and other stakeholders.
    • Prepare and distribute project-related communications, including emails, reports, and presentations.
    • Act as a key contributor to broader HR initiatives, collaborating with leaders and business partners on strategic priorities.
  3. Other Duties (10%)
    • Serve as a back-up resource for another HR Generalist, ensuring continuity of service and support during absences or high-demand periods.
    • Monitor and manage the HR email inbox, researching inquiries, and providing accurate and timely follow-up in collaboration with HR team members.
    • Perform record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, faxing, filing, collating, data entry, calculating, verifying, etc.) to support department staff.
    • Take on additional responsibilities and projects as assigned to support the goals and objectives of the HR department.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree, or a combination of education and/or experience of at least four years.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and cultures.
  • Experience contributing to and thriving in a multicultural, inclusive workplace.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of employment laws and regulations, including ADA, FLSA, FMLA, EEO, and other key statutes.
  • Demonstrated customer-service orientation, with a focus on responsiveness and relationship-building.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and listening.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws related to staffing, recruitment, and selection, with the ability to ensure compliance and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional years of HR Generalist experience.
  • Demonstrated advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience working in an academic environment.
  • PHR/SPHR certification.
  • Knowledge of job analysis and compensation principles.
  • People Soft experience includes; Recruiting Solutions and Position Management.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $52,000 - $65,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience.

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment.

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff.
