Job Title: Director, HR Business Partner

Department: Human Resources

Overview of Role:

The HR Business Partner will act as a credible business-oriented solution provider and trusted partner in relation to people, culture, and human resources needs. This role will be involved with hiring talent, employee experience, talent reviews and performance management, employee relations, and organizational design work for your respective functions. The HRBP takes responsibility for driving people outcomes and will be a doer, problem solver, team builder, and an effective communicator with a passion for excellence.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Translate business challenges and strategic priorities into actionable tailored HR initiatives by developing and executing a comprehensive strategy.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs, participate in the recruitment process for specific roles (senior level) and make recommendations for hiring decisions.
  • Assist in developing onboarding plans and programs to ensure a smooth transition for new hires. May co-facilitate new employee onboarding program for new hires.
  • Support performance management processes, including performance discussions and career development discussions.
  • Partner with management on improving organizational effectiveness by analyzing departmental structures and evaluating options, studying resources, ensuring optimal utilization, assessing team member engagement, morale, and effectiveness, and developing strategic action plans.
  • Proactively identify and address critical organizational and people issues and remove barriers impeding the success of the business.
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with HR peers to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and point of contact for employees and managers regarding policies, procedures, and employment-related matters. Provide guidance, support, and solutions for employee relations issues and conflict resolution.
  • Stay updated on employment laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance and mitigate potential risks.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field; required.
  • Must have at least 3+ years’ experience in the Life Sciences/Pharmaceuticals or Medical Device industry.
  • Minimum of 8+ years in human resources with proven results.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
  • PHR/SPHR/GPHR Certification preferred.
  • Proven ability to challenge and motivate management teams in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
  • Able to forecast and analyze business trends.
  • Ability to effectively utilize HR dashboard metrics with business groups.
  • Familiar with investigative techniques and able to teach others.
  • Strong foundation and knowledge of HR principles and practices including employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven knowledge of full lifecycle recruiting components to include sourcing, qualifying, networking, assessing, closing, and wage/salary trends.
  • Proven ability to effectively coach employees and management through complex and difficult issues.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to set high personal goals and work independently.
  • Ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational navigation skills and ability to develop others in this skill.

  • Exceptional organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize actions.
  • Must be willing to work in the office 3-4 days per week.

Compensation Information:

The pay range for this role will vary depending on location. Pay range for Menlo Park, CA area: $180-$215,000 annually. Pay range for all other locations: $175-$200,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may differ in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor. The total compensation package for this position may also include bonus, stock, benefits, and/or other applicable variable compensation.
