Minimum Qualifications

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

3-5+ years of experience in human resources, preferably in position management, classification, or compensation.

Position Summary

The University Human Resources (UHR) Senior Position Management Consultant plays a critical role in supporting the university’s strategic goals by ensuring accurate, compliant, and effective position management. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of federal and state employment laws and regulations. Key responsibilities include conducting in-depth job analyses, ensuring accurate job descriptions, and partnering with other UHR units on talent acquisition, career progression, retention, and organizational efficiency.

Physical Demands

  • Work in a standard office environment.
  • Able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a scanner, copy machine, and printer.
  • Work using electronic mail, telephone, face-to-face discussions, and paper form correspondence.

Duties/Responsibilities

Job Analysis and Position Management:

  • Conduct thorough job analyses to accurately classify new positions and determine exempt or non-exempt status.
  • Review and approve reclassifications and position updates to ensure alignment with job responsibilities and organizational changes.
  • Create, update, and maintain accurate position records, including job titles, descriptions, and classifications.
  • Manage position changes within the HR system, ensuring timely and accurate updates and approvals.
  • Collaborate with the Workforce Planning team to support reorganization efforts, conduct job analyses, and establish service-level agreements with campus partners.
  • Coordinate with the Career Progression team on the standards for promotions and transfers within and outside of job families and functions.
  • Ensure consistent application of classification standards and processes across the university.
  • Manage limited-term and interim position reviews, in partnership with other University HR units.
  • Engage with the Budget Office to confirm funding allocations for positions, ensuring timely approvals and efficient resource utilization.

Strategic Partners and Support:

  • Work closely with University HR units, such as Classification and Compensation, Workforce Planning, Talent Acquisition, Benefits, and Workforce Engagement.
  • Support unit and organization objectives for various partners across UGA.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to our university community, providing guidance and support on position management inquiries.
  • Deliver training and support to UHR team members, HR liaisons, and hiring managers on position management procedures and tools.
  • Adhere to university objectives and USG initiatives, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and reporting requirements.

Compliance:

  • Maintain strict adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Document job evaluation processes, results, and recommendations to support compliance and decision-making.
  • Monitor position data for Prevailing Wage compliance.
  • Assess position data for Affordable Care Act compliance.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other related position management duties as assigned.
