Job Summary
Under supervision, the Hospital Laboratory Technicians perform a variety of technical procedures in a hospital laboratory or other facility directly involved in patient-care activities; and perform other related duties as required. The technical determinations are in one or more fields of hospital or laboratory procedure, and either directly or indirectly yield technical data about patients. Installation, operation, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments may be a secondary, but essential part of the duties. The UCSF Gaensler lab is hiring 2 Hospital Lab Technician at 5% that will perform repetitive technical product processing support and related duties in the BMT Lab section of the Clinical Laboratories. Provides assistance in cellular therapy processing including media preparation and product infusion. Helps with materials, reagents and product inventory and equipment quality control. This position must perform all duties in a manner that promotes the team concept and reflects the UCSF mission, vision and values. Note: This is a limited position and will end 1 year from the start date.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $37.74 - $47.11 (Hourly Rate).
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, scientific and genomics terminology.
- Experience with Excel, MS Word, and other Microsoft Office applications or similar databases.
- Experience with clinical research process.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
- Organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with clinical research, and federally funded research related regulations.
- One or more year of related experience.
- Academic background and experience in selected area of research.
- Previous knowledge of and experience in a clinical lab setting, and medical terminology.
- Blood Bank or transfusion service experience.
- Experience in UCSF policies, procedures and protocols.
- Show initiative in suggesting new tests or modifications of current procedures or projects to benefit the laboratory.
- Complete competency testing within the time frame agreed upon with the Supervisor or Medical Directors.
