Description
Yale’s Departments of African American Studies, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology invite applicants for multiple positions at the assistant professor level beginning July 2025. These positions are part of a cluster hire in African American Studies and the social sciences. The goal is to deepen empirical scholarship of Black experiences—growing the community at Yale necessary for such scholarship in the process. Applicants’ research should fit within one or both of two broad subfields:
- Racial Attitudes and Political Participation (e.g., estimating the role of prejudice in politics, topics in sexuality and gender identity, race and attitudes towards climate justice, and/or other relevant subspecializations)
- Race, Systems, and Institutions (e.g., the intersections of race and class, race and artificial intelligence, race relations in specific domains such as education, child welfare, public administration, and/or other relevant subspecializations)
All applicants will be jointly appointed with African American Studies and either Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology. Each successful applicant will work with their hiring departments to construct a mentorship plan designed to optimize the applicant’s ability to navigate the resources of two departments on their path towards promotion. Candidates will be expected to teach courses whose content falls within one or both general areas of research listed above. Candidates who wish to be considered for more than one combination (e.g., African American Studies and Psychology and/or African American Studies and Sociology) should indicate this desire on the cover sheet and apply by the earliest relevant deadline below.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) at the time of hire.
