Senior Cybersecurity Policy Analyst

Cherokee Nation System Solutions, LLC is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Cybersecurity Policy Analyst to join the Cybersecurity Oversight and Compliance Team for our federal contract with the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cybersecurity and IT policy development, coupled with a keen understanding of federal regulations and compliance requirements. As a Senior Cybersecurity Policy Analyst, you will play a crucial role in shaping and enforcing NSF's cybersecurity policies and strategies to protect sensitive data and systems.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Estimated Starting Salary Range for Senior Cybersecurity Policy Analyst: Pay commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and compliance activities. Prepare reports to support FISMA audits and assessments.
  • Policy Development: Develop, review, and update cybersecurity policies and guidelines to align with federal regulations, industry best practices, and NSF-specific requirements.
  • Compliance Research: Ensure IT security and privacy documentation complies with federal cybersecurity guidance (e.g., NIST, FISMA, CISA, OMB) and applicable U.S. laws. Research and interpret relevant regulations and standards to inform decision-making.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) Interviews: Conduct interviews with SMEs to gather insights for policies, procedures, and plans, ensuring content accuracy and alignment with expert knowledge.
  • Peer Review: Meticulously review documentation for accuracy, clarity, and completeness, correcting any errors to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Policy Dissemination: Assist in distributing updated policies and procedures to NSF staff and contractors using email, SharePoint, or the intranet (InsideNSF).
  • Risk Assessment: Collaborate on risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify threats and weaknesses, providing mitigation recommendations.
  • Training & Awareness: Stay informed on evolving cybersecurity practices and participate in professional development. Develop IT security and privacy training materials to promote awareness of policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Software Tools: Use Microsoft 365, Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Zoom for creating and managing documentation, training materials, and virtual meetings. Ensure accessibility compliance for all documents and presentations.
  • Document Repository Maintenance: Follow file naming conventions, enable version control, and maintain metadata for SharePoint files. Promote best practices for organization and retrieval.
  • Collaboration: Partner with NSF employees, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure cohesive policy implementation and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, IT, Computer Science, Technical Writing, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years in technical writing required. 3–5 years in cybersecurity preferred, with an emphasis on policy development and compliance. Candidates without preferred experience will be evaluated individually.
  • Security+ required (or must obtain within six months of hire). Additional certifications like CISSP, CISM, CGRC, or CISA are highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of federal cybersecurity regulations and standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, OMB Circular A-130) and the NIST risk management framework.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, conveying complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Proficient in researching and interpreting federal IT security and privacy guidance.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Zoom.
  • Ability to ensure high-quality, client-focused documentation while adapting to specific writing styles. Able to give and take constructive feedback.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with ServiceNow and 508-compliance for documents.
  • Experience with cloud security platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and cybersecurity tools (e.g., Tenable.sc, Splunk).
  • Supervisory or project management experience.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) is a plus.
