Position Summary

The Instructional Design and Media Production Studio (IDMPS) supports instructional innovation across colleges and programs. Reporting to the Media Production Manager, the Graduate Assistant would assist with media production initiatives and gain skills in media and video production.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate on pre-production, including brainstorming, equipment prep, and set organization.
  2. Assist with live video production, supporting camera operations, lighting, and audio recording.
  3. Contribute to post-production workflows, such as editing, color correction, sound design, and motion graphics creation.
  4. Assist in file management tasks across software platforms.
  5. Support the incorporation of visuals and animations into projects.
  6. Assist in quality assurance tasks to ensure technical accuracy for video and graphics.
  7. Learn to implement accessibility features, such as captions, transcripts, and audio descriptions.
  8. Perform other related duties and assist the team in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be a full-time Graduate degree-seeking student at UIC with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  2. Familiarity with multimedia editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Audacity).
  3. Understanding of accessibility standards and tools for creating accessible content.
  4. Ability to gain new skills with openness, dedication, and curiosity.
  5. Proactive and detail-oriented collaboration skills.
  6. Strong organization skills.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Passion for storytelling and creative collaboration.
  2. Enrollment in or completion of a graduate program involving media production, computer science, education, project management, design, or a related field.
  3. Previous experience with video production, editing, or basic graphic design.
  4. Knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  5. Previous experience in instructional design or media production settings.
  6. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard or Canvas.
  7. Basic understanding of general lighting setups, sound recording techniques, camera settings, graphic design tools, motion graphics, and animation software.
  8. Experience in customer service or working in team settings.
  9. Ability to adapt and learn new skills quickly with guidance.
