NDT/NDE Certified Welding Inspector

S&ME seeks an individual passionate about ensuring the structural integrity of steel to join our NDE/NDT team as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) in Greensboro, North Carolina.
As an NDT/NDE Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), you will lead metals technicians on complex projects that may require specialized testing skills. You will supervise other technicians on projects, make technical decisions associated with project schedules, and perform laboratory work and metals testing with minimal supervision. You'll be engaged in fieldwork that may involve safely climbing steel structures such as buildings, cell phone towers, and water tanks to heights exceeding 200 feet, using fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Field Expeditions: Conduct inspections and deploy non-destructive testing methods to uphold quality standards, including ultrasonic inspection (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds.
- Testing Assignment Coordination: Manage testing assignments across projects.
- Testing Gear Maintenance: Maintain testing equipment in working order and calibration, manage inventories, maintain calibration records, and participate in quality audits.
- Effective Reporting: Craft detailed reports to communicate findings effectively.
The position will require 50+ hour work weeks during peak workloads, as well as off-shift and weekend work, as required. Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems is a plus.
What You Bring:
- A High School Diploma/GED
- At least 2 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience or an associate degree
- An AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
- Achievement in ASNT Level II certification per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least one method
- Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training
- Experience in the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems
- Additional certifications are a plus:
- ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
- Level II for UT certification
- Level II for PT, MT certifications
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
- Ability to climb heights over 200 feet
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
