PRINCIPAL ENGINEER - Pressure Vessel and Structural Welding Engineer

Who We Are:

The Mechanical Fabrication Centers Section provides engineering R&D services for commercial and government customers. We fabricate precision machined components and welded joint assemblies to the most stringent of requirements.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Work within a highly collaborative team to support the design and fabrication of large article pressure vessels used in a variety of subsea or surface applications.
  • Ensure acceptable delivery of final product both in terms of weld quality and dimensions for intended purpose.
  • Communicate ideas, results, and other information to coworkers as well as commercial and government clients.
  • Refine existing and develop new portions of welder training program related to high-strength steel weldments for pressure vessels.
  • Contribute to and/or lead support required for staffing levels for existing and upcoming large scale projects.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Interface with project managers and team members to identify, plan, and execute project objectives. Provide input and co-design of weld joint geometry and method(s).
  • Observe weld activities, provide individual feedback, training, and/or develop corrective actions to ensure acceptable welds and dimensions are achieved.
  • Regularly communicate status and schedule of ongoing activities.
  • Develop and/or provide cost and schedule information for proposals to internal and external customers.
  • Execute quality program objectives to meet internal, project-specific, and/or industry standards. This may include generation and qualification of new or edited weld procedures. Ensure completion and retention of required objective quality evidence.

Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Weld Engineering.
  • 12+ years: Development and qualification of weld procedures to AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, or other specialty standards.
  • 10+ years: Welder supervisory experience including training of individuals. Marine or subsea environment preferable.
  • 12+ years: Experience in multiple techniques for structural steel and/or exotic materials.
  • 12+ years: Experience with inspection method selection for types of materials and welds, acceptance criteria, and quality related documentation.
  • CWI preferred.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Requirements:

Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
