Job Summary:

The Production Supervisor plans and manages the day-to-day allocation of resources for designated shift (equipment, people, materials, and systems) to efficiently, safely and cost effectively achieve performance targets as agreed with Production Management. They also ensure that a high quality of products, services, housekeeping, and hygiene standards are maintained and improved in the area; review daily achievement of targets and report variances during on-the-floor and review meetings; and coach, mentor and develop team members to meet current and future business requirements.


Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Supervises employees to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
  2. Achieves budgeted targets for raw material yield, labor, and packaging materials usage for shift.
  3. Responsible for the accuracy of all production reporting related to shift.
  4. Schedule and conduct daily production meetings with shift personnel.
  5. Audits workstations to ensure SOPs are being followed routinely.
  6. Collaborates with warehouse and quality assurance personnel to ensure prompt shipment of product.
  7. Responsible for the complete and accurate reporting of shift production data.
  8. Maintains GMP / Housekeeping at a high level within the department through the involvement of all team members.
  9. Develops and recommends improvements of facilities, equipment, or procedures to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
  10. Oversees and or conducts shift training of new or existing employees.
  11. Drives productivity, quality, and safety initiatives throughout production to impact productivity and the cost structure.
  12. Establishes and supports a work environment of continuous improvement that supports the company's Quality policy, Quality System & the appropriate regulations for the area.
  13. Oversees the management of shift production personnel.
  14. Ensures production is following SunOpta QA standards, SOPs, HACCP, and GMPs.
  15. Member of the Lean Steering Committee.
  16. Committed to ensuring that the products produced meet all food safety and quality requirements.
  17. Collaborates with cross-functional groups including Human Resources, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Warehousing, and Finance to meet production targets.
  18. All other duties, as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Manages employees on a production shift and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned shift.
  2. Ensures effective employee relations. Provides employee coaching and development. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  3. Manages production line performance measures and provides regular progress reports to managers.
  4. Coaches and counsels employees; documents/discusses performance reviews on a timely basis.
  5. Performs accident investigations.
  6. Manages production priorities.
  7. Tracks absenteeism and timekeeping.
  8. Responsible for all other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Associates Degree in related field.
  2. 5 - 7 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in a related field.
  2. Food manufacturing experience.
  3. Bi-Lingual Spanish.
  4. LEAN Manufacturing.
  5. Aseptic experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Ability to use critical thinking to plan and problem-solve.
  2. Must have a working knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint software and be proficient with MS Excel software.
  3. Experience with Oracle is beneficial.

Additional Considerations:

Location: This position will be at the SunOpta Plant in Allentown, PA
Shift: This is a Night Shift role, 5:30 PM - 6:00 AM on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. Some flexibility may be needed.
Work Environment: Approximately 95% of this role is performed in a production environment; 5% may be performed in an office environment.
