Mechanical Engineer II, Amazon Robotics

As an Amazon Robotics mechanical engineer, you will develop innovative system architectures and module designs for our robot drive solutions. The ideal candidate has experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems, is enthusiastic about analytical problem solving and possesses practical knowledge of medium volume manufacturing methods using stamping, extrusion, casting, and injection molding. This position reports directly to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Key job responsibilities

1. Working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing
2. Working with the Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch and sustain a high performing robotic fleet worldwide
3. Writing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
4. Exhibit role model behaviors of thorough engineering analysis and cradle to grave ownership

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

1. BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
2. 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
3. SolidWorks or similar CAD experience with best practices for part design, advanced assemblies, complex configuration management
4. Hands-on experience crafting simple proof-of-concept models
5. Thorough understanding and use of principles, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering
6. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with cross-functional teams
7. Ability to effectively communicate concepts and write technical documents

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
2. Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment through the full product development cycle from inception through maturity including creating associated documentation (specs, test plans, drawings, etc.)
3. Proficiency documenting designs in accordance with ANSI Y-14.5
4. Experience designing and debugging tooled (cast, injection mold, forge, stamp, etc.) components
5. Proven experience in root cause analysis
6. Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and processing engineering change orders (ECOs)
7. MS in Mechanical Engineering
