UW School of Medicine (UWSoM) is one of the largest sponsors of Graduate Medicine Education (GME) programs in the US, with over 130 ACGME- and CODA-accredited residency and fellowship programs, and over 1500 trainees. Most trainees are located in Seattle at UW Medicine locations and affiliated locations including but not limited to: Harborview Medical Center (HMC), University of Washington Medical Center, Montlake and Northwest campuses (UWMC), Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH), VA Puget Sound (VA) and Fred Hutch Cancer Center. Trainees also rotate to over 500 other locations/institutions¸ throughout the five-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) region and beyond.
UW Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a GME Business Analyst. The Business Analyst will provide financial operations and analyses support for GME Finance. Under the direction of the Associate Director of GME Finance, the Business Analyst works independently overseeing activities in areas of billing, reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial modeling. Written and verbal communication with GME stakeholders, including School of Medicine departments and medical resident sites is an integral responsibility of the work to trouble-shoot, problem solve, and explain processes as needed.
The Business Analyst ensures compliance with the State of Washington, University of Washington, UW Medicine, and GME Finance policies and procedures. In addition to standard monthly processes, the Analyst is responsible for directing and implementing special projects that may include process review, change recommendation, documentation of policies and procedures, and training to GME Finance personnel. This position acts in an advisory capacity to senior management within GME Finance providing research and analytical support on important financial issues and must demonstrate effective project management analysis and sound business judgement. The Analyst exercises substantial discretion, independent judgment, and decision-making authority in applying the responsibilities called for. Responsibilities are carried out with technical expertise and provide authoritative advice and counsel to executive and other senior leadership within GME Finance. This position may provide access to restricted or confidential information including employee and patient information, medical center strategic plans and initiatives, financial information or other sensitive materials and information. The Analyst should access and use the minimum necessary employee and organization information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Policy/Process Improvement and Operations (80%):
Ensure program compliance with GME billing and medical resident/fellows tracking policies and procedures, including working with, and providing training to 125+ program administrators who submit monthly billing data in residency management system.
Oversight and communication with programs and sponsoring institutions regarding billing and payment.
Bring continuous thinking and process improvements to the current billing and scheduling residency management systems.
Develop, document, and manage policies and procedures for implementation, control, and review/audit of systematic operations.
Collaborate with leadership and staff to review processes and efficiencies to propose financial improvements toward alignment with GME strategies.
Implement processes to comply with federal regulations and internal systems, and conduct training sessions for system users.
Identify relevant metrics for tracking and reporting performance improvement, exceptions and process opportunities. Implement the use of metrics to drive outcomes within GME.
Cross train and act as a backup to the billing and accounts receivable functions of two Classified staff.Financial Strategy (20%):
Implement and sustain strong processes and capabilities through the enhancement, deployment, and maintenance of methods, metrics, tools, training, education, and communication.
Monitor financial reports to ensure the overall financial health and stability of GME; provide financial and management reports to Associate Director.Other Duties as Assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Management, or related field and three years of related experience in accounting and management. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience in Finance.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with billing systems preferred.
Three years of related experience, preferably in hospital or large medical system.
Intermediate knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding medical residency management that impact academic medical centers.
Experience with Continuing Process Improvement/Lean management is preferred.
Lean or Continuous Process Improvement certification.
MedHub experience preferred.
