Responsibilities
Gannet Fleming TranSystems is seeking a talented Entry-Level Civil Engineer to join our dynamic Marine Industrial Engineering team. As a key team member, you will contribute to various civil engineering projects, including marine terminal planning, coastal developments, dredging operations, site development, industrial manufacturing, stormwater management, utility design, hydraulics, and industrial rail sidings. Your responsibilities will encompass civil engineering design, construction document preparation, and project coordination with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and team members. General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop conceptual designs and detailed construction documents using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and OpenRoads.
- Conduct investigative design studies, prepare reports, and create maps and databases. GIS experience is preferred but not required.
- Collaborate with internal teams, architects, and external consultants to ensure successful project delivery.
- Analyze data to address complex design issues, including utility conflicts, permit limitations, and infrastructure challenges.
- Design conceptual plans for port terminal and marine infrastructure expansions, including waterfront structures.
- Assist in preparing construction cost estimates and related budgeting tasks.
- Draft and review technical specifications, ensuring adherence to industry standards and familiarity with the MasterSpec format for construction documentation.
- Participate in site inspections and field data collection for project verification.
- Utilize various software tools, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Flowmaster, Autodesk SSA, ICPR4, Watergems, and Hydroflow, to support design and analysis.
- Follow guidance from Project Managers and Senior Engineers to meet project objectives and deadlines.
Qualifications
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 0 to 3 years of professional experience in civil engineering design.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam (required).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and 3D civil modeling software.
- Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and various engineering software tools.
- Familiarity with relevant design codes, including AASHTO, AREMA, and AWWA standards.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and shop drawings, with experience evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills, excellent organization, and effective time management.
- Open to diverse perspectives, actively engages in problem-solving, learns from peers, and fosters collaborative learning within the team.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing project requirements and work environments.
