Essential Functions

  • Operate Heavy Machinery: Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, and loaders.
  • Site Preparation: Prepare construction sites by grading and leveling earth, moving materials, and digging trenches.
  • Maintenance and Inspection: Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to the maintenance team.
  • Adhere to Safety Standards: Follow all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe work environment. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Collaborate with Team: Work closely with construction crews, supervisors, and other operators to coordinate tasks and achieve project objectives.
  • Read and Interpret Plans: Understand and follow project plans, blueprints, and specifications to accurately complete tasks.
  • Material Handling: Load, unload, and move materials as required for various construction activities.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and address minor issues with equipment and work with the maintenance team for major repairs.
Knowledge
  • Experience: Proven experience operating heavy machinery in construction or related fields.
  • Skills: Proficient in operating and maintaining a variety of heavy equipment. Strong understanding of safety procedures and construction practices.
  • Communication: Good communication skills to effectively interact with team members and supervisors.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to address equipment issues and operational challenges.
Qualifications
  • Experience with specialized equipment (e.g., bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, and loaders).
  • Knowledge of environmental and regulatory compliance related to construction operations within MODOT and ARDOT.
  • Must successfully complete MoDOT Flagger Training Course and OSHA 10
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds consistently.
  • Ability to bend, sit, stoop, and stand for long periods of time in the outdoor weather.
  • Ability to be exposed to concrete dust, curing compounds, and form oil daily.
  • Ability to work in field environments with exposure to dust, inclement weather conditions, extreme heat, cold, noise, vibrations and a variety of petroleum products.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at heights on all types of structures.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
