What We Offer

The Technical Goods Sourcer is primarily responsible for managing the procurement of Miscellaneous Technical Goods, Laboratory Equipment and supplies, Safety Supplies and related products for North America. This role involves developing and implementing sourcing strategies, coordinating with category managers and suppliers, and ensuring cost-effective procurement for these categories. Additionally, the position provides support to other technical categories such as Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E), Pumps, and related parts. In this capacity, the buyer will assist in strategy development, negotiations, and regional contract deployment as needed. The role involves assisting in repairs and contracting activities, interacting with Original Equipment Suppliers (OEMs) and their authorized representatives, and internal stakeholders to develop cost-effective equipment repair strategies. Additionally, this position will provide procurement support for Capital Projects as needed.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders for Miscellaneous Technical Goods, Laboratory Equipment and Supplies, and Safety Supplies categories in North America.
  • Understand business needs & engage with stakeholders, acting as an internal consultant to ensure that the Procurement function continues to be seen as a valuable business partner.
  • Provide category intelligence, reduce supply risk, and gain competitive market advantage for primary categories and support similar efforts for I&E equipment and components.
  • Conduct detailed supplier and supply market analysis for assigned categories, looking at facts and indicating market trends to make better business decisions.
  • Provide accurate in-depth insights on supply market risks and supplier-specific risks to align and implement mitigation measures.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies and initiatives for primary categories, ensuring compliance with Procurement guidelines and internal/external process standards (e.g., REACH).
  • Determine the best procurement methods, prepare and lead supplier negotiations, award suppliers, and conduct negotiation debriefs to ensure the best outcome.
  • Manage supply agreements and contracts over the entire lifecycle and minimize exposure to contractual risks (e.g., Contract Excellence).
  • Manage supplier relationships, implement supplier management principles, and improve supplier performance for primary categories.
  • Integrate sustainable business practices into supplier relationships and ensure compliance through reports, audits, and improvement plans.
  • Conduct regular checks to ensure implementation of quality, sustainability, and safety standards and corporate compliance rules.
  • Assist in off-site repairs and contracting activities for primary categories and support similar efforts for I&E, Pumps, and related parts.
  • Provide procurement support for Capital Projects as needed.
What You Offer

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a Business area and at least 2 years of experience in engineering, procurement and construction of major facilities, preferably in a chemical industry OR;
  • Master's degree in Engineering or a Business area and at least 1 year of experience in engineering, procurement and construction of major facilities, preferably in a chemical industry
  • The eligibility to apply for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within a reasonable timeframe
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certification (C.P.M. or CPSM) through the Institute for Supply Management is desirable
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Basic Negotiating and contract management skills and working knowledge of legal claims, litigation, and business law
  • The ability to understand and communicate both legal and technical issues is essential, as is the ability to understand market trends, corporate culture and goals, and regional influences
  • Demonstrated and strong analytical skills and ability to organize data to derive insights for business decisions.
  • Basic knowledge of SAP and Ariba systems
