As a Staff Bench Characterization Engineer, you will be a key individual contributor to the Product Development and Test Engineering team, focusing on bench test development for RF functional block and system-level testing. You will work across the entire product lifecycle-from initial concept to production-focusing on test development, bench automation, and ensuring high-level product quality. The role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, particularly in wireless transceivers, and provides a collaborative environment for impactful technical work.

This is a full-time position in San Diego, CA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team focused on bench characterization and automation, collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Evaluate the latest test equipment and identify commercial test solutions to enhance test capabilities
  • Use Python to create efficient test automation programs and equipment drivers for electronic measurement equipment like Vector Network Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, high-speed oscilloscope, power meter, signal generators, and more
  • Responsible for bench test automation Gitlab, working closely with other bench test engineers to release Python scripts and maintain the Gitlab.
  • Coach junior engineers and contribute to their career development while leading team's efforts

Job Requirements
  • BS in EE/CS is required, and MS/PhD in EE/CS is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in bench test automation script development, specifically with Python and MATLAB
  • 1-5 years of leadership experience, particularly driving test solution development and mentoring junior engineers
  • Strong experience in test automation, bench equipment drivers, and electronic measurement instruments
  • Familiarity with Gitlab, version control, and process-oriented program development
  • Strong problem-solving skills, excellent team collaboration, and effective communication
  • Possess analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to diverse teams

Desirable Skills
  • Solid understanding of RF test metrics like Noise Figure, EVM, ACLR, etc.
  • Experience with high-speed digital tests (e.g., as jitter, eye diagram, BERT) is a plus
  • Able to work effectively with incomplete or changing requirements, multi-tasking efficiently, and remain details-oriented and result driven
  • Good understanding of the semiconductor product development flow
  • Experience with programming high-volume ATE tester platform (e.g., Teradyne or Advantest) is a plus
