Description

Overall Responsibility: Responsible for providing electrical design expertise, team oversight, leadership and mentorship for engineers and designers. The Electrical Practice Lead also supports the marketing team to identify new pursuits, teaming partners and opportunities for new work. The Electrical Practice Lead must have the ability to respond to technical RFP's, develop fee proposals and provide technical writing. Additional contributions include effective coordination with project stakeholders, teaming partners, scheduling, and resourcing of the right staff to meet the project needs. Responsible for design oversight and technical quality of work produced maintains a high-level standard of quality meeting corporate expectations. Builds a positive and supportive work environment for employees.

Essential Functions:
  • Technical Leadership: Provides electrical technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team as the Practice Subject Matter Expert for the discipline of which they practice.
  • Culture Building: Manages and mentors a team of engineers to ensure they are motivated, productive, and aligned with the company's goals.
  • Employee Retention and Morale: Creates high morale among employees.
  • Process improvement: Identifies areas for process improvement and implementing changes to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Licensed Professional: Delegates the responsible Engineer of Record for projects and when required, acts as the Engineer of Record to sign, and seal documents, as applicable to specific discipline.
  • Collaboration: Collaborates with Project Managers and other Practice Leads to ensure that projects are properly staffed to ensure project success.
  • Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC): Establishes standards for Quality Assurances throughout design process. Oversees and contributes to Quality Control reviews at project milestones.
  • Business Development: Assists with development of fee/scope of service proposals, presentations, interviews for and pursues future projects.
  • Client Management: Builds relationships with existing and potential clients.
  • Recruiting: Assists with recruiting and hiring new staff to join the team.
  • Accountability: Ensures accountability of staff within Practice and reports to the Director of Planning and Design
  • Staff Management: Reviews and evaluates performance of direct and indirect reports within Practice. Oversees staff utilization, skills matrix, and ensures that staff is appropriately allocated.
  • Performance Metrics: Monitors performance metrics and best practices.
  • Travel: Capable of traveling to project and client sites for presentations, interviews, design, and coordination meetings.


Qualifications

Needed Skills:
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Willingness to build professional relationships with staff and clients.
  • Proficient with software, such as Excel, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite, SharePoint, Newforma, and Vision.
  • Advanced knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations such as BICSI, NEC, NFPA, and International Code Council family of codes (ICC Codes).
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize while being detailed and safety oriented.
  • Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of project management concepts including, but not limited to, scheduling, resourcing, budgets, work breakdown structures.

Education/Experience Minimum:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • Minimum fifteen years' experience in a technical capacity reflecting increasing responsibility.
  • Must have demonstrated technical strengths in a variety of knowledge areas related to the Practice.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the physical and functional requirements of systems related to the Practice, such that direction can be given to design teams.
