Overview

The Director of Business Relationship Management (BRM) is a director-level consulting position that provides the bridge between business strategy and technology. The BRM builds strong relationships with business leaders and teams, providing dedication in understanding business strategy, organizational friction, and supporting the business by connecting business outcomes with technology opportunities. The BRM supports the business in facilitating future state models, scope identification, business case development, portfolio funding, and ensures that projects start with the business future state and scope defined at the beginning. The BRM will support the business through organizational change management, ensuring the solution gets adopted and embedded into business operations. This is a functional role that will lead Business Analysts who will take business processes and scope and transform them into business requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Alignment & Business Relationship Management
  • Understands the goals of the company and needs of the business owners.
  • Understands business teams' and customers' friction/pain points.
  • Facilitates and documents business strategy, future state models, process flows, customer journey maps, user experience maps, and other similar artifacts.
  • Partners closely with key technology leaders to align technology products with business strategies, outcomes, and goals.
  • Facilitates consistent "business to technology" touchpoints that may outline new opportunities, existing health of business projects, application support metrics, etc

Project Opportunity Discovery
  • Facilitates and documents opportunity scope and other key future state needs.
  • Partners with technology teams to infuse technology scope and other considerations.
  • Partners with technology teams, purchasing teams, and legal to facilitate product evaluation, RFI/RFP process.
  • Supports the business in developing business cases and portfolio one-pagers in preparation for portfolio intake processes.

Project Support
  • Ensures a clean hand-off of future state and scope to a Business Analyst who will document business requirements.
  • Supports the Business Analyst through the requirements process by answering scope questions, ensuring requirements are aligned to scope/future state process, and gathering business approvals.
  • Supports the Business Analyst as they transition requirements to the technical team and develop requirements traceability.
  • Supports the business through testing/user acceptance testing as needed.
  • Prepares the business for go-live by ensuring knowledge transition is in place, readiness has been achieved, and sustainability items are in place.

Organizational Change Management
  • Leads or supports (based on complexity) organizational change ensuring readiness to adopt future state/solution.
  • Supports or leads stakeholder identification, change impact assessments.
  • Supports or leads change management strategy & plans.
  • Stands up or supports change networks, change leaders, and change management teams.
  • Works with training & communication teams to build and deliver appropriate training & communications.
  • Supports or builds developing and monitoring change metrics.
  • Supports the business through go-live to ensure change resistance is managed and the solution is embedded into operations.

General Department & Team Management
  • Directs, manages, coaches & mentors a team of Business Analysts.
  • Indirectly provides direction and oversight to Project Managers, business teams, and technology teams.
  • Exercises authority concerning hiring, performance improvement plans/reviews, promotions, salary recommendations, and terminations.
  • Prepares inputs for budgeting for internal & external resources and expenses.
  • Establishes a comprehensive communications program that includes both formal and informal meetings, correspondence, and discussions with respective business partners.
  • Promotes positive public and employee relations.

Key Skillsets
  • Can easily develop deep business knowledge & relationships.
  • Advanced level consultation and facilitation skills. Shows up like an external consultant.
  • Excellent communication skills; listening, verbal (at all levels of the organization), and written.
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience that may include multi-day virtual workshops.
  • Has "business level" understanding of business applications usage.
  • Can model business processes through workflow design, user experience design, customer/employee journey mapping.
  • Can lead discovery through partnering with technical director (for product), purchasing (for RFP), finance (for business case), with business & IT (for scope definition).
  • Strong functional leadership with a team of Business Analysts who can transform strategy, process & scope into actionable requirements and outcomes.
  • Emerging Organizational Change Management skills (can help in large/medium changes and can lead small changes).
  • Builds strong trust & keeps commitments.
  • Experience with Agile and Waterfall Development methodologies, and project management.
  • Proven track record implementing and supporting complex programs.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities with deep understanding of the business; excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with cross-functional working teams which may include contractors and third-party vendors.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork; ability to work with direct and matrix resources from multiple cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; highly detail-oriented, meticulous, and creative. Ability to prioritize among competing opportunities. Ability to lead through ambiguity and loosely defined goals.

Qualifications

  • - B.S. or equivalent degree in Business, IT, Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration or 8+ years' experience.
  • - Experience in management consulting providing strategic alignment, strategy development or project delivery.
  • - Experience in strategy facilitation, roadmaps development, process modeling, capability modeling, user experience design or customer journey mapping.
  • - Demonstrated ability to map outcomes to project delivery tying project outcomes back into operations.
  • - Experience leading high-performing teams.
  • - Certifications in Business Relationship Management (BRMP or CBRM), Project Delivery (PMP, CSM, CSPO), or Organizational Change Management (CCMP or Prosci) preferred.
