About this role:

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design aspects of New Product Development programs (NPD) and Sustaining products throughout their entire lifecycle. The chosen candidate will own the mechanical architecture and design execution, along with processes, tools, and metrics used for new product development and on-going sustaining programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Contribute to mechanical strategic planning, concept generation, architecture definition and translation to system/subsystem/component definitions, with a focus on manufacturability, reliability, safety, and sustainability.
  2. Documentation of mechanical requirements with associated rationale(s) for regulated products and test cases for sub system requirements.
  3. Collaborate with other engineers and designers on requirements development, product risk analyses, design and technical reviews, and other product development deliverables.
  4. Support project managers by providing work breakdown plans and task estimates in support of project plans and schedules.
  5. Effectively use tools and processes necessary to ensure traceability from requirements to test cases.
  6. Contribute to the development of resolutions to product mechanical-related issues in development projects and manufacturing operations.
  7. Follow development processes, perform technical reviews, ensure product requirements comply with company standards, and properly document work deliverables.
  8. Work closely with technical and subject matter experts to ensure accurate and complete use case coverage and regulation compliance.
  9. Ensure that mechanical designs are rigorously documented, supported and substantiated with analytical and/or numerical analyses e.g., FEA and tolerance analyses, tested at different stages of development, and controlled.
  10. Establish (as needed), implement, and maintain written verification and testing standards and policies.
  11. Work closely with Approvals and Test Engineers to develop and execute mechanical tests.
  12. Develop and implement risk mitigating solutions

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience with at least 2 years developing electro-mechanical products.
  • Experience using PTC Creo/Windchill or Solidworks
  • Due to contractual agreements, must be a US citizen, green card holder, or permanent resident.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Platformed product development desired.
  • Strong mechanical discipline knowledge with experience in mechanical engineering design analyses (particularly tolerance analyses and FEA) and testing methods.
  • Experience working with vendors in design for manufacturability in die/investment casting, injection molding, machining, assembly, and troubleshooting manufacturing defects in defective materials reviews.
  • Knowledge of design practices, methodologies, tools, and instruments preferably for regulated products. High hazard application (Industrial Life Safety, SIL2, explosion-proof enclosure) knowledge is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508) and Functional Safety certified is desired.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with project stakeholders (Product Managers, Customers, and other Engineers).
  • Skilled in collaborating with other engineers to distill market needs into defined technical requirements, system/subsystem/component architectures, and verification/ validation test plans.
  • Demonstrated root cause analysis skills (Lean Six Sigma, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams).
  • Experience with GD&T and ASME Y14.5 drawing best practices.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently on assignments to foster continuous improvement of team functions and deliverables.
  • Experienced with FMEAs and developing control techniques to mitigate risks.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to support process improvement activities.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions safely, and work within established company guidelines.
