Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, a designated Level 3 Medical Home, is the largest federally qualified health center network in New York State, and the second largest in the nation. We embrace diversity, inclusion, and individual skills, ideas, and knowledge. Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Dental Assistant - Park Slope, Brooklyn. In this role, the successful candidate will assist the dentist in all modalities of dentistry including operatory, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, and pediatric dentistry. The assistant will uphold the standards of care related to infection control, ensuring that all OSHA guidelines and safety protocols are followed. Responsibilities include exposing, developing, and mounting radiographs, preparing the operatory, and ensuring patient comfort while waiting for the dentist. The assistant will also be responsible for sterilizing hand pieces, transporting instruments for sterilization, identifying inoperable equipment, performing light lab work, documenting patient records as dictated by the dentist, and complying with all departmental policies and procedures. Job Responsibilities: Provide chairside assistance to the dentist utilizing proper four-handed dentistry procedures and observing universal precautions/protocols and sterile techniques. Ensure compliance with hospital health center and departmental policies and procedures. Uphold the standards of care related to infection control; all OSHA guidelines and safety protocols must be observed. Take, expose, develop, and mount radiographs when applicable. Maintain the dental operatory in an organized and clean fashion, ensuring that appropriate instruments and supplies are available. Ensure patient comfort while they wait for the dentist. Clean instruments and prepare them for sterilization. Sterilize and/or disinfect instruments and hand pieces following the guidelines of the Dental Department Infection Control Manual. Document patient records as dictated by the dentist and assist in filling out charts accurately. Pours and trims patient study models in the dental laboratory and completes laboratory forms accurately. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age-related criteria pertinent to the patients served in the assigned area. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify, you must have a High School Diploma and 1 year of experience in chairside dental assisting. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
